The question types in the practice test or guide will be very easy to follow. I have taken a lot of nursing continuing education classes and could not understand most of the questions. Luckily, I found an excellent course that uses audio voice clips to explain topics. I listen to the questions when I am in my car or at home. I usually record the questions to take down as many as I can so I can review for the exam.
The practice test guides and CDs will also have plenty of practice questions and answers. Some exam tests will not have real questions at all, just prepared answers. This means that you have to spend some time doing research on the actual exam to know what questions are being asked. You will find some sample questions on the HESI website.
Once I have a list of questions that I know I will have to answer correctly, I go back online and do my review. I usually take some time to write a review of the information I have learned from the HESI website. I try to write a few pages about the topic I have learned. If there is an exam reference book, I use the book to study for the exam.
After I have a nice big pile of practice test questions, I take a few minutes to write a few sentences about each one. I let the students who are taking the exam review my essay for them. They do not need to understand the question they just read, but they do need to understand the concept. The last thing I want is for my students to get nervous and think that they may not be able to take the exam. I like to see good scores on my practice exams and high grades because that means I did a great job with the exam and I showed my potential employers that I can do the job.
Before you start your HESI practice tests, you should make sure that you have taken a complete comprehensive exam. This is important because if you take a practice test that only covers part of the HESI exam syllabus, you could fail this part and lose your certification. Take the entire HESI exam. There is no sense in taking a practice test that does not cover everything that needs to be covered in the exam.
You will also need to get the proper studying and review materials. I like to have a few different books that I can read and go over thoroughly. I do not want to have to remember what was in one book and what was in another book. Make sure that you have access to study guides for the exams. These are usually available at your local library or bookstore.
If you want to take as many practice tests as possible before taking the exam, then go ahead and do that. You will have more confidence in yourself when you take the actual exam. If you need to, purchase a few review courses to give you extra preparation. Just remember to get the books that cover the parts of the exam you need to know. Practice makes perfect when it comes to studying HESI.
