Like the ISEE exam, the HESI consists of three parts: Parts A, B, and C. It may take up to two weeks to complete the entire HESI examination, depending on the number of questions that must be answered. As with all educational exams, the total score attained depends largely on the speed with which applicants can answer the questions. Applicants may obtain a copy of their official High School Diploma in Nursing or a transcript of their High School Yearbook in Nursing from their local educational facility, or they may obtain a paper copy from the National High School Clearinghouse. The HESI examination was developed in response to increasing concerns by nursing school graduates about their nursing education and training.
The official HESI examination consists of two parts: Parts A and B. Applicants who successfully pass Parts A and B of the exam to qualify for the third and final part of the exam, known as the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Taking the HESI examination will earn applicants eligible for licensing as a nurse. Candidates may earn up to two degrees from accredited nursing schools; two degrees from participating accredited universities; and one degree from non-accredited institutions.
In order to prepare for the HESI exam, applicants should take the NCLH practice test and review the sample test questions. The exam will cover fifty questions, which include basic information on human anatomy and physiology. Applicants need to complete the test within a time limit of 200 minutes. After the test, students will be asked to provide their answers in writing. Test results will be emailed to the student’s account.
Applicants who successfully pass the NCLEX-RN exam may be able to take the NCLEX-PN exam later on in the same year. Students who are unable to take the NCLEX-RN exam due to prior certification will still be allowed to take the NCLEX-PN exam. Applicants who successfully pass the NCLEX-PN exam are required to successfully take the NCLEX-BSN exam two years later in order to become certified in medical terminology. This exam, along with the NCLEX, is offered through the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and is administered by the American Council on Nursing Accreditation Commission (ACNE).
Students who successfully complete the four-hour examination may be eligible for medical terminology placement. In the United States, there are currently eleven colleges that offer medical terminology placement. Students who successfully complete the examination will be assigned an associate degree in medical terminology from one of these colleges. Students will have the opportunity to work one or two hospital shifts and take a medical terminology placement test upon completion of the course.
Students who successfully complete the course will be mailed their associate degree, and will be able to take the NCLEX within one year. However, students must pass the practical exam before being awarded their certification. The exam is available through a variety of books, online instruction and study guides. Online instruction allows students to study from home at their own pace and from various devices including laptops, iPads and even cell phones. There are many guidebooks available for purchase as well. Students can purchase a book based on the material they need, and then study in a more organized manner.
The main disadvantage of taking the HESI A2 Exam Anatomy exam online is the fact that all students will be using the same books. Therefore, it may be difficult for some to understand the text and techniques that are presented. It is possible that some of the illustrations in the guidebooks may not be fully understandable due to poor design and presentation. Although this particular feature is only a drawback for those studying from home, it is important for students to review the materials prior to submitting their final exam. This ensures they have a thorough understanding and are confident in their abilities when it comes to passing the medical terminology examination.
