What many people don’t realize is that the HESI exam is not only available in the United States, but in many other countries throughout the world as well. In Canada, for example, they offer the NCLEX, and also in England they offer the CLEP exam. The NCLEX is very similar to the HESI exam, in that it tests both nursing knowledge and clinical skills. However, the NCLEX has much more restrictions than the HESI. For example, you cannot take a practice exam until you have successfully completed and passed the entire exam.
The reasons for this are rather obvious: one would want to make sure that every test taker took the exact same type of exam so that there would be a comparison of how much they’ve learned throughout the years. Another reason is that taking too many tests at once can make a person nervous and slow, which isn’t helpful when it comes to learning style or getting a good night’s sleep. Finally, and most importantly, these exams allow people to focus on their study habits, which is important because this is what will help them achieve their goals. These are all things that are important considerations when it comes to any type of certification test taking or preparation courses.
In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the pros and cons of taking a HESI exam, as well as looking at some of the benefits that you gain from taking a HESI or NCLEX-style test. First, a little background information on HESI and NCLEX preparation: the Health Education Standards Initiative (HESI) is a federally mandated exam and like the NCLEX is required for all individuals wishing to get their nursing licenses in the United States. HESI exams test the learner’s general knowledge and health care ethics and are usually administered by state agencies.
There are five sets of exams that must be taken in order to qualify for the exam; each set of exams is based upon the previous one. That means that a person who is studying to become a nurse must first complete a set of basic training and then take the final set of exams in order to complete their training and become a licensed nurse. The cons of HESI practice tests are that there aren’t as many practice exams, so there aren’t as many sample questions on the actual exam that will help students prepare.
Another con is that you will receive only three full-length practice exams – two written and one of oral. In addition to not receiving any actual practice time or exam materials, students must also purchase study guides in order to answer questions. These study guides are usually sold along with the HESI exam. Some of the pros include the fact that you will receive official HESI course materials, which include practice exams that you can take along with your examination; the fact that the exam is available on the Internet for review; and that you do not have a passed score to compare with.
A third pro is that most HESI test prep courses include a practice exam for the NCLEX-style exams that must be taken before becoming a licensed nurse. This means that you will have actual practice exams that can be used in conjunction with the official exam. However, the exam materials are not typically detailed enough for you to review effectively. As mentioned above, most programs consist of study guides, but they are not designed to be study guides. Students need to purchase study guides that provide detail directions and practice questions that will help them get ready for the actual exam. Some of these test prep courses are sold separately from the exams.
HESI exam is not the only licensing examination that you must pass before becoming licensed in nursing. There are also three other exams that you must pass before becoming a licensed nurse in this field. These exams are the Registered Nurse (RN) examination, the degree in Nursing (ADN) examination, and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) examination. In addition to passing the HESI exam, all three of these examinations must be re-taken in order to be certified. For this reason, it is often a good idea to take all three exams as close in time as possible to when you plan to sit for the exam. This will help students to be more prepared when the day comes.
